Adolf Sotoca, born in Barcelona in the mid 70’, is a PhD Architect & Urbanist. He displays his passion for architecture and the city in a wide range of fields, from research & teaching to practice. He is Chair Professor in Architecture at Luleå University of Technology in Sweden, Professor Serra Hunter (on leave) at UPC_BarcelonaTECH in Spain and principal of CSArquitectes.

Prof. Sotoca loves sharing his passion with younger generations. He has been teaching urban design studios and theory of architecture & urbanism since early 2000'. Curious by nature and always eager to widen horizons, he has been engaged with several higher education institutions: he has been Visiting Professor at the Illinois School of Architecture (USA) and at CTU Krakow (Poland), as well as Guest Professor at NU Singapore, ETH Zürich, Berlage Institute Rotterdam, IUA di Venezia, Politecnico di Milano, TU Darmstadt and UAUIM Bucharest. He is also board member of several international institutions on Urbanism education, such as the International Forum of Urbanism and the European Postgraduate Master of Urbanism.

Prof. Sotoca’s research is currently focused on the regeneration of obsolete and declining residential areas. He is leading researcher of several EU & Latinamerican funded projects and author of a vast number of publications (see writings). He is actively participating as a panelist of UN-Habitat as well as developing applied research in the URBACT program, where he is appointed as Thematic Expert in “Integrated development of deprived areas or areas at risk of deprivation” and in “Governance and urban planning”. Adolf Sotoca has been invited to speak in a large number of international conferences and events. He has lectured in Europe, Asia and America.

Prof. Sotoca feeds his teaching and research with a nourishing practice. He is co-founder and principal of CSArquitectes, one of leading offices on Urbanism in Barcelona. Since 2005 CSArquitectes has been repeatedly acknowledged with several international and national prizes. Some proposals and designs by CSArchitects are published in scientific journals and institutional publications. Moreover CSArchitects has partaken in many scientific conferences presenting some of the works commissioned to the office. The research-practice approach undertaken by CSArchitects has been awarded with the prestigious TALENT award.

Adolf Sotoca enjoys to the max learning from others, either from colleagues and students. But he specially savors learning by doing with the three kids he is the proud father of.
